Oklahomans will have the opportunity to enroll in health insurance coverage for 2025 starting November 1. Open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace will run until December 15, with coverage beginning on January 1, 2025. This marketplace, created as part of the Affordable Care Act, allows individuals and families to compare and select medical insurance plans that suit their needs.
Rising Healthcare Costs
Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready emphasized the rising cost of healthcare and the growing demand for insurance. He urged residents to take this opportunity to evaluate their healthcare needs. “Now is the time to review you and your family’s needs to secure the best coverage that meets those needs,” he stated.
Previous Enrollment Insights
Last year, over 269,600 Oklahomans renewed or purchased plans during the open enrollment period, with an average premium of $71 per month after federal subsidies.
Insurance Options Available
For 2025, seven insurers will offer individual health plans tailored to the needs of Oklahoma residents. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma will provide a statewide plan. Other options will be available from Medica Insurance Company, Oscar Health, UnitedHealthcare, CommunityCare Oklahoma, Ambetter of Oklahoma, and Taro Health, although some will only be available in select counties.
Eligibility Requirements
To enroll in a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace in Oklahoma, individuals must be U.S. citizens currently residing in the country and not incarcerated.
Role of the Oklahoma Insurance Department
The Oklahoma Insurance Department oversees the insurance industry in the state and is responsible for educating and protecting the public regarding insurance matters.
