Premiums may rise by up to 35% starting April 2025, but most Singaporeans will see this fully offset by government support measures.

Increase in Premiums

SINGAPORE: Starting from April 2025, MediShield Life premiums are expected to increase as the government expands the national health insurance scheme. This decision follows a review by the MediShield Life Council, which recommended enhancements to better protect Singaporeans from significant medical expenses.

The council has proposed raising claim limits and expanding coverage to enable patients to access new types of care and treatments. Due to these changes, premiums may rise by as much as 35%. The increases will be implemented evenly over a three-year period, running from April 2025 to March 2028.

Average Premium Increase

According to the council’s report released on Tuesday (Oct 15), policyholders can expect an average increase of 22% per policyholder by the end of the three-year period.

Funding the Increase

To mitigate the impact of the premium rise, the council has recommended a one-time release of approximately S$600 million from the MediShield Life Fund. This strategy aims to cap the total premium increase at 35% while spreading the increases evenly over the designated timeframe.
