The Commercial Insurance Section within the Department of Operational Support (DOS) of the United Nations recently convened the annual meeting of International Financial Institutions at the UN Headquarters in New York. The event, attended by representatives from major development banks and UN officials, was inaugurated by Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, and Patrick Carey, Director of the Division of Administration.
During the meeting, Patrick Carey highlighted the pivotal role of commercial insurance in safeguarding UN operations, particularly in response to catastrophic events and emergencies. He emphasized the ongoing impact of commercial insurance on the organization’s resilience and operational efficiency.
The three-day gathering featured presentations and discussions on a wide range of topics including The Global Risks Report, current insurance market dynamics, challenges posed by climate change, cyber insurance, risk optimization strategies, self-insurance and captives, insured-insurer relationships, and worker compensation.
A key component of the meeting was the annual round table where participants from various institutions openly exchanged insights and strategies related to risk management. Additionally, participants engaged in optional networking events such as a business seminar on parametric risk and attended a special outing to CitiField for the Subway Series.
