Supporting Diverse Voices in Media

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) has announced its role in administering a portion of the Changing Narratives Fund. This initiative, launched by the Government of Canada, aims to empower diverse communities and organizations to share their stories in the media and cultural sectors. The fund will finance professional development activities to increase the number of qualified and diverse creators in these industries.

The Department of Canadian Heritage officially introduced the Changing Narratives Fund earlier today.

Focus on Equity and Inclusion

The CMF will concentrate on equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within Canada’s audiovisual sector through this fund. Investments will support various activities, including mentorship, training, and work placements, providing creators and companies with the opportunities they need to succeed at every stage of their careers.

“Our country’s audiovisual industry thrives on the strength of Indigenous and Canadian storytellers,” said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the CMF. “These storytellers bring unique perspectives that resonate deeply with audiences both at home and abroad. The Changing Narratives Fund will help us create more opportunities for diverse creators to amplify their voices and contribute to the rich tapestry of stories that define our nation—our diversity, history, and collective experiences.”
