Pasir Gudang – A 50-year-old woman has lost RM190,000 of her life savings in a cryptocurrency investment scam. The victim, an employee at an international school, fell prey to the scheme after being approached by an individual she met through Instagram.

According to Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak, the scammer presented an investment opportunity in cryptocurrency to the woman. The suspect provided detailed explanations on how to invest and showcased a graph predicting substantial returns. Additionally, the scammer displayed images portraying a luxurious lifestyle to entice the victim.

Supt Mohd Sohaimi revealed that the victim, persuaded by the promises, downloaded the Luno app and completed six financial transactions totaling RM190,000 between June 10 and July 16. The funds were used to purchase cryptocurrency within the app, which was then transferred to another wallet.

The victim was initially shown evidence of significant profit but was later informed that further payments were required to withdraw her funds. She reported the incident to the police on July 21.
